Soft berries and strawberries that are too soft or have a mould problem, a container of blueberries with a cooling problem or raspberries whose shelf life is not optimal - that is why the new company Fruit Cleaning Service in Venlo was founded. "We help companies who have received soft fruit with problems and who do not know what to do with it," says Robbert Leisink.
"We have a solution for this Class II trade.. Some batches can be sold elsewhere, but we can freeze other product to process it as an IQF product in smoothies, ice cream and milkshakes. We have professional freezing lines here in Venlo that are perfectly suited for this," says Robbert.
According to the fruit trader, this service fills a gap in the market. "For instance now at the end of the Chilean season, you always have pallets of fruit that are unfortunately no longer suitable for packing for retail. We now have a solution for that as a way of 'damage control' and help the growers. It saves the grower dumping costs and he still gets a correct amount for it.
