Dole Exotics targets 25% reduction in carbon footprint of its Bleiswijk CDC

Total Exotics, a marketer of premium Avocados and Mangoes to the European retail sector, has taken a significant step forward in reducing still further the environmental impact of its marketplace operations.

With the installation of nearly 1,400 solar panels on its Central Distribution Centre located in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands, Total Exotics anticipates a reduction of over 25% in the carbon footprint associated with the facility with the panels generating some 415.000 Kwh yearly and reducing CO2 emissions by some 250.000 KG.

Speaking of the initiative, General Manager, Said Bannany noted: “In Total Exotics we strive to deliver to the European consumer exotic produce grown and marketed to the very highest ethical standards. A commitment to the implementation of sustainable processes and practices right across the supply chain lies at the very heart of everything that we do. Embracing renewable energy in Bleiswijk represents another important step on our ongoing journey towards becoming an ever more sustainable business.”

A specialist unit operating within the wider Total Produce group, the adoption of renewable energy in Total Exotics will be an important contributor to “Vision 20/20”, Total Produce’s carbon management project, as the group seeks to build on the achievement of an 18% company-wide reduction in carbon consumption in 2019.
