Dublin tomato grower extends Aldi deal for five years

North County Dublin grower, Flynn’s Tomatoes, has won a new five-year contract worth €14 million with Aldi Ireland to supply its 139 stores. The new deal will see Flynn’s Tomatoes supply Aldi with 10.5 million packs of Irish grown Bord Bia approved tomatoes across eight different varieties, including Piccolo, Sunstream, Vine, Plum, Baby Vine, Cherry Vine and Rainbow Mix.

Under the new agreement, Roterno Vine tomatoes will also launch in Aldi stores in 2020. Flynn’s Tomatoes has been heavily involved in Aldi’s programme to remove and limit unrecyclable packaging from its supply chain.

It became Aldi’s first fruit and veg supplier to remove all non-detectable black plastic trays from its produce earlier this year, replacing them with eco-friendly cardboard trays, saving 250 tonnes of avoidable waste.

Employing up to 20 people during peak season growing, Flynn’s Tomatoes is a third-generation family enterprise run by father and son team, William and Martin Flynn. It has supplied Aldi’s stores since 2013.
