Huancavelica, Peru's first ecological region

The Andean department of Huancavelica will become the first ecological region of Peru thanks to the support of the Commission for the Promotion of Peruvian Exports and Tourism, Promperu, and the signature last April of a framework agreement for inter-institutional cooperation with the Association of Exporters (Adex) by the Regional Government.

After the signing of the agreement, a plan was put in place to improve agricultural production in the region, modernize irrigation, train farmers, promote associative activities, and promote ecological certification. In this way, the agrarian sector of Huancavelica has been able to adapt and position its exportable offer. The most important export products grown in the department are avocado, aguaymanto, yacon, pomegranate, cherimoya, native potato, quinoa, corn, and tarwi.

The agreement will combine efforts, skills, and competencies to promote productive and economic development, focused on innovation, consolidating exports, attracting investments, and improving connectivity to the benefit of Huancavelica.

The ecological products of the region will participate under its new certification in Expo Peru Los Andes 2020, organized by the regional governments of Huancavelica, Apurimac, Ayacucho, Ica and Junin, members of the Commonwealth of Los Andes.
