The major fruit capitals of India

In June 2018, Indian president Ram Nath Kovind declared Tripura's queen variety pineapple to be the state fruit. He admitted that the export of this pineapple variety is a major step in connecting the state with world trade.

Kovind addressed the reception programme held in Tripura on the evening of June 7 where he stated that the queen variety pineapple will be well received among neighbouring countries, including Bangladesh.

But there are other major fruit capitals of India; a lot of other states and cities are producers of an important fruit variety and are often termed as 'fruit capitals'.

Here are the top 10 fruit capitals of India:
1. Nagpur: Oranges


The city of Nagpur is the major producer of oranges in India and is also known as the Orange City.

2. Himachal Pradesh: Apples


Himachal Pradesh is a major mass producer of apples. Kotgarh in Himachal Pradesh is known as the apple bowl of India.

3. Goa: Cashew nuts


Goan cashew nuts are of a premium quality and they tend to fetch an excellent price.

4. Mahabaleshwar: Strawberry


Being a hill station, Mahabaleshwar is the strawberry capital of India. Tourists can visit the huge strawberry farms across the land.

5. Allahabad: Guavas


Allahabadi guavas are famous for their taste and quality. Safeda and Surkha are the most popular varieties.

6. Ratnagiri: Alphanso Mangoes


These mangoes are famous all across the country for their sweet taste. This is the reason why they are the most expensive variety in India.

7. Maharashtra: Bananas


It is the largest producer of bananas after Bihar. The most popular farms are located in Jalgaon city.

8. Gujarat: Chiku


Chiku or Sapota is one of the very popular fruit crops in Gujarat but they are also grown in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

9. Madhya Pradesh: Ber


Ber is also called Indian jujube fruit. Apart from Madhya Pradesh, it is also grown in Bihar and Punjab.

10. Pune: Anjeer


Pune is the largest producer of anjeer or figs with more than 900 hectares of cultivated land.
