'World’s first extruded snack with fresh vegetables'

Scotland: Farmers' co-op raises £2 million for Growers Garden

East of Scotland Growers, a farmer-owned co-operative in Fife, is claiming a world first with its new broccoli snack brand. The group from Cupar is tapping into the healthy snack-trend with the launch of Growers Garden, the world’s first extruded snack that uses fresh vegetables.

Four directors and 15 farmers from the co-operative have invested £2 million in the brand which they say brings the “high-fibre health benefits of superfood broccoli to the snacking market”. The snacks are described as all-natural, vegan-friendly and gluten free, containing a minimum of 27 per cent broccoli and less than 100 calories per pack.

Nicholas Marston, investor and chairman of Growers Garden, said the brand was “truly innovating within the healthy snack category”. He said: “We are in a great position now to introduce the product to market with high interest already received from international markets.”
