India: Bananas become a dependable crop for farmers in south Gujarat
Approximately 66,309 hectares are under banana cultivation in the state of Gujarat, situated in the far west of India. In Bharuch, the production was 895,055 tons, in Surat it was 61,0220 tons and in Narmada 563,040 tons.
Nyoooz.com describes how the city of Surat in South Gujarat is a major producer of mangoes and sugarcane, but it is the banana farmers who have been making consistent profits in the region for the past five years, barring 2017. There are no major issues with disease in this crop. The markets do fluctuate, but are stable compared to other horticulture items.
