Eucofel expresses concerns about the future CAP

The representatives of EUCOFEL have expressed their concerns, both at the meeting in the European Parliament (with the Vice President of the European Parliament, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, the Vice President of the Committee on Agriculture, Clara Eugenia Aguilera, and MEPs of COM-AGRI) and at the meeting at the EC with the General Director of Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission, Jerzy Bogda Plewa. The reason is that the CAP Communication presented by the European Commission does not mention the specific regime for the fruit and vegetables sector under the single CMO.

FEPEX, as a member of EUCOFEL, has used these meetings to argue that the future reform of the CAP should maintain the specific regime for fruits and vegetables under the single CMO in its current configuration, with producer organizations as the main tool for the sector's organization and operational funds as the main source of funding, necessary to protect the sector's competitiveness. It is also considered important to improve the market crisis management measures. Along these lines, there was also an analysis of the new market crisis management measures and the exceptions to the competition rules included in the Omnibus Regulation, which will come into force on 1 January 2018.

EUCOFEL also highlighted the importance of EU trade negotiations with third countries, stressing the importance of taking the principle of reciprocity into account.
