Florida citrus producers expecting cold snap
A cold snap is bringing freezing temperatures to Florida this weekend. Temperatures could drop below freezing in some parts of North and Central Florida this weekend. The state’s major citrus production areas shouldn’t be affected too much, but growers are advised to be alert nevertheless.
And those growers farther north, or those who find themselves in a particularly cold area, should start planning how to respond. Because if it's going to be in the 30s, they need to have cold protection.
South Georgia growers do face potential freezing temperatures. The forecast temperatures there aren’t too bad yet, but if they also get rain or freezing rain, there could be some damage.
The owner of a citrus orchard in Bulloch County said he's watching the temperature numbers closely. He says his mature plants can handle what is forecast, but that's about it.
Across North Texas, cold weather is already impacting communities.
