Ukraine: Sharp reduction of carrot acreage

In the current season, carrots have been one of the crops recording the sharpest drops in acreage, according to the conclusions reached by analysts of "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits" based on their work on the updated version of the study "Fruit-and-vegetable market of Ukraine-2017: results and forecasts for the next season".

According to the information revealed, more and more Ukrainian producers consider the cultivation of carrots unprofitable. As a result, they are quite actively reducing the acreage planted with this crop, and some farms are refusing to produce it at all, which will undoubtedly have an extremely negative impact on the gross harvest volumes.

Furthermore, adverse weather conditions in the second half of summer have led to an increase in the proportion of substandard products, which are unsuitable for storage. More details on when the reduction in the carrot production will begin to be felt in the Ukrainian market, as well as on the prospects for prices in this segment, will be made available in the updated version of the aforementioned study.
