China: Overproduction harms kiwi prices

There are quite a few reasons why the current kiwi price is low. The most important reason is the abundant supply of kiwis. The kiwi production all over China has increased. The cultivation technology for kiwi production in China is becoming increasingly mature and, as kiwis have been popular on the market over the past few years, many farmers have started to realise the many benefits of cultivating kiwis. As a result, the cultivation surface of kiwis in China has increased rapidly.

Because of the increased production volume, the amount of kiwis that don't get sold on the market increases too. When the production volume is high, the price naturally moves in the opposite direction. Apart from all this, there has been a lot of rain recently in the kiwi production regions. Kiwis need plenty of sunshine before they become tasty. The rainy weather has led to a proportion of kiwis being less tasty and this too is a reason why the kiwi price is going down.
