Spain: Andalusian agro-food supply promoted in Canada

A total of eleven Andalusian horticultural companies have been promoting their agro-food supply in Canada between 11 and 14 September in the framework of a direct commercial mission organised by the Council of Economy and Knowledge through Andalusia's Foreign Promotion Agency (Extenda). The mission has been carried out in Montreal and Toronto, where Andalusian firms receive the support of the Extenda Office in Montreal.

The purpose of this mission is to facilitate access to the Canadian market, allowing the companies involved to become familiar with the market first hand, to initiate contacts with potential buyers or to expand contacts in the case of companies already present in the country.

Canada is a priority market for the Andalusian horticultural sector, since it became the second most important non-EU destination for Andalusian fruit and vegetable exports in the first half of 2017, only behind Brazil, surpassing the third position it held in 2016, with a 3.6% growth. In the current period, Andalusia retains the second position in the ranking of exporters to the country, just like in 2016.

The action organised by Extenda has included three working days in Toronto and Montreal. In the first one, on 11 September, the Andalusian companies visited the Ontario Food Terminal in Toronto and then met with local distributors and importers.

On the second day, which took place in Montreal, the firms held business meetings with Canadian companies and carried out a series of commercial visits organised in partnership with the Association des Distributeurs en Alimentatio du Québec (ADAQ). On the final day, they participated in more commercial visits scheduled in partnership with the Quebec Produce Marketing Association (QPMA).

The Andalusian firms that have travelled to Canada to participate in this trade mission are mostly based in Seville (Asocifruit, Berrydealer Consulting, Cintransat, Espalmex and Primor Fruit) and Almeria (Biosabor, Fresh Sourcing, Unica Fresh and Zoi Agrícola), as well as in Granada (Eurocastell) and Malaga (Sifrido Fruit). The organization of this action by Extenda will be co-financed with funds from the European Union.
