The withdrawal quota for Spanish peaches and nectarines has been raised from 19,500 to 29,325 tonnes. This additional quota, approved to tackle the impact of the Russian veto, came into force last Tuesday, according to a press release from the Spanish Federation of Associations of Producers and Exporters of Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers and Live Plants (Fepex). On 24 August, the European Commission's expert group approved an amendment to Regulation 2017/1165 of exceptional measures for the Russian veto in order to increase the quota retroactively to 3 August. The volume eligible for withdrawal may be used for free distribution, including processing with payment in kind, as well as for green harvesting or non-harvesting.
The FEGA announced that the new notifications benefitting from the expansion of Russian veto quotas must be executed for at least 85% of the validated volume, otherwise the aid will not be paid for that notification. In the revision of the Regulation, and considering that the crisis affects all producer Member States, the Commission has increased the maximum quantity of peach and nectarine withdrawals for Italy by 4,760 tonnes and for Greece by 10,710 tonnes, taking also into account the negative impact of the phytosanitary measures adopted by Belarus.
The quota increase had been requested jointly by Asaja, Coag, UPA, Cooperativas Agroalimentarias and Fepex.
