Foreign demand grows for AU veg exports

Rural Bank’s latest horticulture update found difficult seasonal conditions during late 2016 and early 2017 in Australia saw vegetable exports drop by 3 per cent from January to May.

Despite the contraction in the overall volume of Australian vegetable exports, shipments to Singapore increased by 8 per cent and sales to the United Arab Emirates jumped up by 11 per cent

Limited supplies during the first half of the year lifted the vegetable consumer price index by more than 11 per cent for June quarter.

The Horticulture Update revealed Australian nut exports continued to go from strength to strength from January to May, up 14 per cent compared to the same period in 2016.
