Peru's tangerine exports have grown by 20% since 2015

Peru's tangerine exports totaled US$135 million in 2016, Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL) reported. The result led to an increase from the amount (US$77 million) registered in 2012.

"In the last year alone, exports of this product grew 20% compared to 2015," CCL Foreign Trade Center (CCEX) Manager Carlos Garcia said. "This [positive] trend is driven by the increased demand for the fruit worldwide," he added.

The main tangerine varieties are Satsumas and Clementinas, among others. Peru is the world's eleventh largest tangerine producer, thus accounting for 1% of the total global production.

The U.S. was Peru's top tangerine exports destination last year (US$54 million) having received 40% of total shipments. The second spot was claimed by the United Kingdom (US$34 million), posting a positive growth rate of 18% with the Netherlands in third (US$16.5 million), which was up by 1%.
