Iran makes five shipments of vegetables by air to Qatar
Iran has made five air shipments to Qatar to support the emirate after the embargo imposed by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, as reported by Sahroh Nousbandadi, a spokesman for the Iranian airline Iran Air.
"So far, five aircraft have been sent, each carrying about 90 tonnes of vegetables. Another is expected to leave today. We will continue the missions for as long as Qatar asks for it," stated the spokesman, without specifying whether this is humanitarian aid or a trade agreement.
About 350 tonnes of fruit and vegetables have also already been loaded on three small vessels and shipped to Qatar, according to the news agency Tasnim, quoting Mohammad Mahdi Benchari, General Director of Ports and Maritime Administration of Bushehr Province, which is located directly opposite Qatar.
The Emirate has been isolated after the decision by Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt and other countries to break their diplomatic relations with Doha, which they accuse of "supporting terrorism" and approaching Iran. Saudi Arabia closed Qatar's only land border, through which about 40% of the imported foods consumed entered.
Iran, Russia and Turkey have been in favour of starting a dialogue to find a solution to the crisis.
