Associate International Group of Nurseries completes annual general meeting

The Associate International Group of Nurseries (AIGN), who works globally to introduce new products for the fruit industry has completed its Annual General Meeting, held in China. The meeting was hosted by Shennong Variety Management (SVM) which is the AIGN member for China.

Members in attendance included S.T. Asia - Korea, Star Fruits - France, Rene Nicolai - Belgium, Top Fruit – South Africa, Viveros Requinoa – Chile, Los Alamos de Rosauer – Argentina, The New Zealand Fruit Tree Company – New Zealand, Australian Nurserymen’s Fruit, Improvement Company – Australia, Shennong Variety Management Company – China and Brandt’s Fruit Tree Company – USA.

The meetings were held in several towns and the group was fortunate to make extensive tours. Among the sites were secure importation facilities, trial blocks and nursery stool beds of M9 rootstocks.

"We toured new high density plantings. We went to universities and were presented with a slideshow addressing their breeding programs. We visited high end retail centers for food products. These stores are obtaining extremely high prices for their produce. One large Fuji apple fetched a price of six dollars. One small box of cherries from CA was priced at forty four dollars. That is with the exchange rate for U.S. dollars," an AIGN representative said.

The group was also taken to distribution facilities where they were shown warehouse packing, storage, and shipping facilities. Among these facilities was a business which packages juice, concentrate, dried fruit, fresh fruit, and more. Many of the businesses sell and purchase products to and from all over the world.

After the tour the group held their annual meeting where company projects were reviewed and actions noted. AIGN officers re-elected during the meeting included Lynnell Brandt as President and Florent Geerdens as Vice President.
