Wholesale price for carrots increases in Ugandan markets

After a drop in the supply of carrots to Ugandan markets two weeks ago, vendors have been forced to increase prices.

A sack of carrots which used to cost between sh110, 000 to sh150,000 is currently at sh200, 000 for wholesale buyers according to Denis Mukasa, a vendor in Kibuye market.

In Nakasero market, a basket or tin of carrots ranges from sh10,000 to
sh50,000 depending on the size of the basket.

For small scale buyers, one can get six small carrots at sh1,000 and big ones at sh2,000 along Luwum street.

Vendors are blaming the rainy season which strained the transportation of the vegetable imported from neighbouring countries like Kenya and Rwanda.
