Venezuela seeks to export citrus fruits, pineapples, bananas, mangoes, avocados, cocoa and coffee to Russia, according to a statement posted by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture on its website following a meeting with a Venezuelan delegation on 3 May.
"The Venezuelan representatives confirmed their interest in expanding the range of goods supplied to Russia, in particular citrus fruits, pineapples, bananas, mangoes and avocados, as well as cocoa and coffee," the statement said.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, "the Russian side in turn informed them about the import rules for products subject to quarantine in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union."
During the meeting, the parties discussed the mutual increase in the supply of agricultural products and foodstuffs to the markets of both countries with the goal of boosting Russian-Venezuelan trade in the agricultural sphere.
Both countries previously signed an agreement that regulates safety issues and phytosanitary requirements during the export of wheat and its by-products to Venezuela, thus putting an end to the obstacles faced by Russian wheat exporters shipping to the Venezuelan market.
During 2016, trade between Russia and Venezuela grew by more than forty times compared to 2015.
