Spain: Benicarló artichoke renews its quality certificate

The Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin "Alcachofa de Benicarló", the only Regulatory Council of the province of Castelló that has this recognition, has just renewed its ENAC (National Accreditation Entity) certificate; a document that allows it to continue developing its certification activities and which shows the markets the safety with which they work and the rigorous controls that are in place.

The audit carried out by ENAC took place last January and is based on the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17065 standard. During the inspection, there was a review of the PDO's documentation. Once verified that the system is correctly in place, and taking into account the good performance of the Regulatory Council in recent years, the ENAC has extended the term until the next audit.

As noted by the Chairman of the Regulatory Council, Francisco Lluch, "while they normally give us a term of one year, this time the Accreditation Commission has agreed to carry out the next follow-up visit in June 2018; that is to say, a year and a half later than usual. We are very happy, because it is a vote of confidence to our way of working, bearing in mind that this certificate is the result of the efforts of our growers, who continue working to deliver the highest quality, and also of our technicians."

Lluch added that "we all work together to protect the good name of the brand and carry out control tasks that guarantee the quality of our product until it reaches the consumer." The 80 producers cultivate around 300 hectares and the five firms under the PDO, based in 4 municipalities, are Fruits Belgi, Benihort, Frudex, Sat Senar Caldés and Frutas Vamp.
