Turkish delegation in Russia to discuss lifting of sanctions

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek is heading a Turkish delegation on Tuesday to discuss the lifting of Russia's economic sanctions against Turkey.

He is accompanied by Turkish Minister of Economy Nihat Zeybekçi and other officials.

The delegation is expected to meet in Moscow with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich.

The two sides will discuss the lifting of the ban imposed by Russia on the import of fresh fruits and vegetables from Turkey, as well as the work of Turkish companies in some sectors.

The two sides will also discuss ways to lift the ban on Turkish labour and restore the former visa procedures between the two countries, as well as lifting the restrictions on land transport.

According to official data, the trade exchange between the two countries declined from 35 billion dollars a year to between 27 and 28 billion following the crisis caused by the downing of the Russian fighter that violated Turkish airspace.
