Cold snap in Ukraine delays early cabbage harvest

Producers are reporting delays to their early cabbage harvest due to cold weather, causing increased prices of around 20-30% compared to last year.

The pressure on the market increases every day as more and more early cabbage is entering the market from Southern Ukraine and Macedonia.

The prices for early cabbage at the farms in Zakarpattia region this week fell by almost 1.5 times and a negative tendency is increasing daily. As of April 20, 2017, growers in the village Zarichia in Zakarpattia region are offering early spring cabbage at a EUR 0.64-0.67/kg. Just last week, prices had been around EUR 0.82-0.92/kg.

Macedonian cabbage is currently being sold at EUR 0.69/kg at the wholesale markets of Ukraine and the price has reduced over the last week. Farmers in the Southern regions of Ukraine reduced the prices of early cabbage to EUR 0.60-0.64/kg.
