Producers and exporters of Chilean Hayward kiwis are expected to have good results in this campaign. This year, Europe's production of this variety is 20% lower than in the previous year. The lower volume will have an impact on the prices that will especially benefit companies, such as Exportadora e Importadora Vivaldi. "We estimate that the sales prices in Europe for the first arrivals of intermediate calibers will range between 2.20 and 1.30 euro / kg, while the big calibers will cost between 1.40 and 1.50 euro / kg," stated Tomas Acuña Vivaldi, the Manager of Exportadora e Importadora Vivaldi.

This Chilean company sends its kiwifruit practically to the whole world. It ships 45% of its kiwi to Asia, 30% to Europe, 15% to Latin America, and 10% to the Middle East.
"We hope to be able to get ready about 150 containers for this season," Acuña added. Two other factors will influence the Chilean Hayward kiwi campaign this year compared to last year. On the one hand, the campaign started a couple of weeks earlier than last year, which has created a great expectation in the Asian market that, as in other parts of the world, pays very well for the first fruits of the season, Acuña said. And on the other hand, last year, the European kiwifruit campaign lasted almost until June, leaving little room in the market for the Chilean product.
