Fifteen hundred tonnes of mushrooms from Saxony

In 2016, Saxony had four companies with a production surface of 1,000 m2 or more, which grew consumption mushrooms. On a harvesting surface of about 74,000 m2, people harvested about 1,500 tonnes of mushrooms. The largest share of this consisted of button mushrooms, with about 1,350 tonnes (89.3%). The remainder consisted of oyster mushrooms and shiitakes, among other products. Three of the four companies grew organic mushrooms. Throughout Germany, about 72,100 tonnes of mushrooms were harvested by 37 companies in 2016. Of this, 70,600 tonnes (97.9%) were button mushrooms.
