Russia: 76 tonnes of Polish apples, Chinese cabbage and mushrooms destroyed

Smolensk customs officers have destroyed a large consignment of Polish products at the landfill site in the Rudnyansky district. They were four batches of banned goods totalling more than 76 tonnes: two batches of apples, one batch of Chinese cabbage and one of mushrooms. The product labelling revealed that Poland was the country of origin. These goods were imported to Russia from Belarus without accompanying documents.

The carrier may be charged with an administrative offense under Art. 16.3 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (non-observance of prohibitions and restrictions when importing goods); an investigation is underway. Such a violation can be punished with a fine of between 50 and 300 thousand roubles (approximately between 808 and 4,852 Euro).

In total, this year the customs office has destroyed 37 batches of banned products with a total weight of more than 740 tonnes.
