Indian government to create garlic export centre

The Indian State Agriculture Minister, Prabhulal Saini, has announced the setting up of a garlic export centre while reassuring members of the state assembly that he would make efforts to ensure that garlic producers get remunerative prices for their crops.

The state is likely to produce 8.43 lakh metric tonnes of garlic this year, the minister said, while replying to the supplementary questions during the question hour in the assembly.

“We will set up a garlic export centre combining four top garlic producing districts so that farmers get good value,” Saini said.

Saini said that the state will send a proposal to the Centre to purchase garlic under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS) to ensure that farmers get good value for the produce.
