Saudi Arabia is one of the countries within the Gulf region with the highest consumption of fruit and vegetables. As some types of vegetables need to be sourced through import, the country is dependent on Spain. While Spanish production was severely affected by frost a couple of weeks ago, this didn’t have a significant impact on the market of Saudi Arabia.“The price for broccoli is stable. We’re able to import it throughout the whole year,” says Tahir Faraz of the Saudi Arabian import company Feyafy Al-Madinah Trading. The company began its operation fifteen years ago and has remained a steady supplier of Spanish broccoli and Dutch white mushrooms.
According to Faraz, the Saudi Arabian market for imported fresh produce seems to be increasing, while the price right now appears to be stable. “Prices went up for a bit, but other than that there were no real problems,” says Tahir Faraz in conclusion.
