Peru exported 61% of its asparagus to the US

Exports of fresh asparagus began 2016 at a moderate pace when compared to the first month of the previous year. According to information from AgrodataPeru, Peru exported 6,877,392 kilos of asparagus for a FOB value of US $27,326,404 in January this year. These numbers marked a drop from the 10,159,490 kilos worth US $ 43,211,098 that Peru exported in January 2015.

According to the same source, the main importer of Peruvian asparagus in this period was the United States, which accounted for 61% of total sales. It was followed by the UK (11%), the Netherlands (10%), Spain (8%), Australia (1%) and several other destinations that together account for 9%. 

The major exporters in this first month of the year include Complejo Agroindustrial Beta SA with exports for US $3,364,000, followed by Danper Trujillo SAC (US $4,805,000), Empresa Agro Export Ica SAC (US $2,465,000) Sociedad Agricola Drokasa SA (US $1,964,000), and Santa Sofia del Sur SAC (US $389,000). 

During 2016, Peru exported 119 276 124 kilos of fresh asparagus at an FOB value of US $405,404,027.
