Australian vegetable grower looks to export markets in Middle East & Asia

4 Ways Fresh general manager Kingsley Songer said his company was looking to target export markets for capsicums, Lebanese cucumbers and potentially zucchinis in the Middle East and Asia

Currently the majority of produce grown in the Geraldton region is continental cucumber for the domestic market. However, he believes that there is a market for certain vegetables in foreign markets he hopes to take advantage of.

"In the Geraldton area and in WA in general I think there is a huge opportunity," Mr Songer said.

"The biggest advantage that WA has got is its close proximity to the South-East Asian market, where there is a whole lot of people up there looking for clean, fresh produce, which we grow."

"Geraldton itself has got huge opportunities. It's relatively close to Perth, transport and infrastructure are all in place - it's just a matter of really finding our niche."

"Eggplant is another one. It's a funny product — there's either a lot of it around or very little of it about, but there's certainly a growing export market for eggplant, particularly in the Middle East," We are having a serious look at what we are going to be growing in 2017," he said.
