Agam, Indonesia to distribute chili seeds to reduce inflation

The Regency of Agam, Indonesia, has announced its plans to distribute five sticks of chili seeds to houses in Agam in the near future in an attempt to combat rising inflation.

“We will distribute the chili seeds in the near future, as the seeds are still in seeding phase,” said Ermanto, Head of Fishery and Food Security Office of Agam Regency.

The first phase will focus on citizens living in Talago but in later stages the government hopes to offer the seeds to other parts of Agam as well. The chili seeds can be planted in the gardens of locals, and can be sown in the next couple of months. “Through this method, the public can at least reduce the dependency on chili that is provided at the markets,” he said.

Meanwhile, Noveri Edios, Member of the Agam Regional House of Representatives, said the house supports the regency’s program in maintaining normal chili prices. He expects the public to maintain chili plants so the program can run well.
