Over 50% of Western growers produce tomatoes and leafy greens

The West saw a good year in terms of agricultural production in 2016. Compared to other regions of the United States the West saw the largest growth according to the American Vegetable Grower magazine's 2017 State of the Vegetable Industry survey.

The data also found that around two-thirds of growers in the West grow on more than 100 acres while around one in five grow on 1,000 acres or more. Another interesting discovery was that Western growers were more likely to focus on just a few crops rather than a broad variety. Tomatoes and leafy greens were grown by around 50% of Western growers.
