Qatar to market high-quality veg in supermarkets

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment’s (MME) Agriculture Affairs Department, has implemented a new project in order to market more high-quality Quatari vegetables at Al Meera stores.

The MME said the program was launched to market local vegetable produce, which are grown in farms that use modern production technology. The partnership has been implemented in order to keep up with demand for produce and also to give the foreign vegetables more marketing opportunities.

A joint study by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce’s consumer protection section and MME was established to place several conditions and standards for the marketing of high-quality local vegetable products at the consumer complexes.

"To meet such standards and conditions, the vegetables should be produced in greenhouses using sophisticated production methods, the products should be packed in specially-designed, high-quality packages, and each participating farmer can choose the design of his packets, which should carry the motto particular to the products, to ease the process of controlling them by the department and other concerned entities." the study stated.

The MME said this guarantees that consumers would get high-quality local products similar to other imported vegetables at suitable prices.
