Latest Egyptian citrus season very challenging

The latest Egyptian citrus season has been described as “very challenging” by Fady Adly, Export Coordinator at Capespan Egypt, “mainly due to tough competition from Turkey, which has been flooding the market with very competitive prices, and the fact that the Navel has come with big sizes and lower production compared to previous seasons,” he explains. “We have also noticed a significant decrease in the Navel production (but a good increase in the Valencia).”

Despite these setbacks, Adly assures us that Capespan Egypt is proud to supply high quality citrus varieties to destinations worldwide, including Europe (where the firm aims to reach a 25% market share), Russia, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. “Our range of oranges includes the Navel (available from week 49 till week 4), Valencia (from week 1 until May) and Baladi (from week 49 till week 2), as well as sweet oranges (from week 51 till week 4).

As for lemons, the company exports top quality varieties, like the Eureka, which is available from mid-November till the end of January,” states Adly.

It is worth stressing that for Capespan Egypt, quality is never the exception, but always the rule. “We have a very professional team specialized in quality control, which helps us guarantee the excellence of our fresh fruit at every stage of the production process; from the harvesting to the handling and packaging process. They control factors such as the weight, degree of maturity, color and sugar to acid ratio. By applying these criteria, we ensure full customer satisfaction and reliability.”

Capespan Egypt markets its fruit under three different brands: Outspan, Goldland and Sunchoice, “which are known worldwide. Furthermore, one of our branding strategies for the coming year is the development of a new ‘’Crown Brand’’ for the second category,” he concludes.
