29% of Scottish parents 'give up' on feeding children vegetables
A further 37% of parents with children aged six months to 18 years become frustrated when trying to get their children to eat vegetables at mealtimes, with some listing the reason for the difficulty being tantrums.
Cauliflower and broccoli top the list of vegetables parents find most difficult to feed to their children. Of the 1002 adults that responded to the survey, 21% said they struggled to feed their children cauliflower with broccoli at 18%, green beans 6%, peas 5%, sweetcorn 3% and carrots at 5%.
The 2017 Eat Better Campaign will encourage parents giving them recipes to make vegetables more appealing to kids.
Public health minister Aileen Campbell said: "We understand from listening to parents that getting children to eat vegetables can be challenging but Eat Better Feel Better is focused on providing simple, quick and cheap ways to make mealtimes healthier and less stressful."
"Over the coming months, we'll be working with hundreds of community groups, voluntary organisations and retailers across Scotland to provide this support as well as directing parents to the Eat Better Feel Better website which is packed with easy recipes and handy meal planners."
