Malaysia to see enough mandarins for CNY

After worries of reduced supplies of mandarins for the Chinese New Year, the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Sibu branch chief Kasim Mana, stated that supplies will meet demand.

“KPDNKK has received assurance from major suppliers, importers and wholesalers here that there are adequate supplies of mandarin oranges and essential items for this coming Chinese New Year celebration,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

For the Chinese community, mandarin oranges are among the must-have items in their new year celebrations as the fruit is a traditional symbol of abundance and good fortune.

“We will take action under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 on traders who fleece consumers by raking in excessive profits from the sales of mandarin oranges,” Kasim said, warning would-be traders who would take advantage of limited supplies.
