Zimbabwe land owner fighting for seized farm

Ben Freeth, a commercial farmer, recently took time out to remind former cabinet minister, Nathan Shamuyarira, the new land owner, how she had ruined his once productive farm.

Freeth was kicked out of Mount Carmel Farm near Chegutu during the violent land grab exercise sponsored by President Robert Mugabe's government.

Years after the family was thrown out, Freeth decided to visit the Mango producing farm a few weeks ago where he was shocked to find it was a shell of it's former self.

He said he also took time to chat to his former workers at the farm who told him how they were better off when he was running the farm.

When he was still the farm owner, Mount Carmel Farm produced up to 1000 tonnes of mangoes and citrus. They had 500 head of cattle; impala, zebra, sable, water buck and kudu grazed the land. They grew maize and 200 tonnes of other fruit per season as well.
