Egypt: Ambassador confirms safety of country's ag produce

Tariq Adel, the Egyptian ambassador to Jordan, has confirmed the high quality and safety of his country's produce exported to the Kingdom or any other country, adding they are subject to the necessary laboratory tests.

In a press conference at the Egyptian embassy in Amman, Adel said that his country is keen to ensure the safety of public health and to export produce of high health standards.

Adel expressed appreciation for the Jordanian authorities who announced that Egyptian agricultural produce is safe and does not pose any harm to human health.

He denied rumors saying that some Egyptian produce causes hepatitis A (a contagious liver disease), explaining that many Arab and foreign countries, who import these same products confirm they are free of any viruses that might have harmful effects on human health.

Arab states top the list of countries importing Egyptian manufactured food products, which amounted to $1.7 billion, followed by African, European countries and then the United States.

The ambassador stressed that the US Food and Drug Administration has not issued any decision banning Egyptian agricultural and food produce from entering its markets, as circulated on social networks.

Ministry of Agriculture spokesperson, Nimer Haddadin, also stressed that vegetables and fruit imported from Egypt are safe.
