Uganda: Companies still not meeting EU export standards

Uganda's government instituted a self-imposed fresh fruit and vegetable export ban to the European Union back in 2015, until quality issues were resolved.

Ahead of a review of Uganda’s exports by European Union officials on compliance to standards, some export companies still have not yet dealt with quality issues that led to the ban.

In recent weeks 53 firms holding export licenses have had some of their products, particularly chillies, intercepted and rejected due to presence of pests and other hazards.

The ministry of agriculture says these companies will have to do a lot more to meet the compliance standards.
