Courgettes register sharpest increase

Low temperatures boost vegetable prices in Almeria

Between Friday 20 November and Tuesday 24, prices have taken quite a sharp turn, mainly due to the cold temperatures registered in the province of Almeria.

The case of courgettes is the most prominent, with average prices that have almost doubled during the above period, rising from 0.97 to 1.60 Euro. Similar is the case of the thick variety, which has registered average prices above 1.30 Euro per kilo at the start of this week.

Aubergine prices have also registered a sharp increase; the striped variety has gone from 0.74 to 0.93 Euro on average. Meanwhile, the long variety follows the same path, since its average price has almost reached 0.95 Euro per kilo.

In the case of peppers, all varieties have responded positively to this drop in temperatures, although the most noteworthy case is that of the green Lamuyo, which currently exceeds 0.80 Euro. Meanwhile, Green Italian, red Lamuyo and green bell peppers stand at around 0.75 Euro on average, while yellow and red bell peppers also register price increases, but remain behind the rest.

The products recording the lowest variation this weekend have been cucumbers and tomatoes, with prices that have remained stable compared to the previous week. In this case, it will be necessary to wait and see if prices increase in case the cold weather continues.
