American okra exports go where demand exists

Little has been said about American okra and its nutritional and healing properties. While it is not a common part of most people's daily diet, recent studies have shown it to have a number of beneficial properties which assist with many things, from the treatment of diabetes and cholesterol control to helping burn calories to lose weight.

This recent data has put this exotic plant in a good position when it comes to doing business, at the forefront of the mind.

This is the case of Exoticfarm SRL, a company founded in the 90's in the Dominican Republic, whose business approach has focused on the import and export of exotic foods of vegetable origin.

Exoticfarm SRL has quickly established itself as one of the world's leading firms by exporting products to the United States, Canada and parts of Europe. Part of its success is based on the high quality of the foods it exports, its strict controls in the packaging process and the great passion shown by its employees.

The company president, Eddie Martínez, has been focused on the okra market for years, so in 2013 he decided to launch the BPA application to export this and other exotic products where demand for them existed. This made Exoticfarm a pioneer in the market, expanding with export routes to Russia and Western Europe.

Its great logistics capacity, with daily air shipments to the United States, Canada, the UK and Europe and a 9 day long maritime route to the port of Rotterdam, put the firm in an advantageous position to export fresh okra to numerous destinations worldwide.

At the moment, it has about 500 hectares of American okra ready for harvest and export, since the company has implemented better transport logistics to ship its goods. This will undoubtedly give it the edge on sales over other countries, like Honduras or Nicaragua.

Part of the programme consists of the export of 300,000 boxes from November to June; a figure which will increase between 2016 and 2017 by around 50% per year.
