The Chairman Caretaker Committee of the Sokoto State Traders Association, Alhaji Muazu Bello Rafi, Thursday said the state can generate over N10 billion annually exporting agricultural products to neigbouring African countries.

He also stated that the State Chamber of Commerce had constituted a 14-member committee, to resolve the crisis of leadership in the Association.

Speaking with THISDAY in Sokoto on Thursday, Rafi said the agricultural products which included tomatoes, onions, garlic, rice and wheat could be exported to Niger Republic, Benin, Ghana and other Afrcan countries.

He emphasised that Sokoto has comparative advantage in producing such agricultural products in commercial quantity in many local government areas of the state.

The Chairman said plans were underway by the State Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with investors from Niger Republic to set up a tomatoe and onion processing factory in the state.

He explained that the factory when established, would go a long way in reducing waste and boost the income of tomato and onion farmers in the state.

According to him, this would further create jobs and reduce unemployment in the state capital.
