Spain: Increase in net profit per hectare for peppers this campaign

This campaign, pepper growers in the province of Almeria have managed to obtain a higher profit than in the previous year, according to estimations made by Hortoinfo based on data from the Council of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development Board of Andalusia and its Prices and Markets Observatory.

The higher yield per square metre achieved in the production of this vegetable has apparently compensated for the higher production costs and a lower average price.

The net profit obtained by pepper producers in Almeria has totalled 126.15 million Euro, after deducting production costs, maintenance costs of the greenhouse facilities and overheads. This net revenue exceeds that of the previous year (100.91 million Euro) by 25 percent.

Total revenue for producers has amounted to 449 million Euro; 47,600 Euro per hectare. The province of Almeria has produced a total of 630.77 million kilos of peppers on 9,400 hectares.

Profit per hectare
Each greenhouse hectare in the province of Almeria devoted to the cultivation of peppers has generated an average net profit of 13,200 Euro, with a gross income of 47,600 Euro per hectare.
