Southeast Turkey Siirt region’s biggest peanut producer is installing a second greenhouse

Turkey: Peanut producer sets up Siirt’s second largest vegetable greenhouse

Peanut grower Hamza Keles is building Siirt’s second largest greenhouse for vegetable production. With 3 million peanut plants, Hamza Keles is Siirt’s biggest peanut plant producer, at the same time, 4 years ago he began to cultivate organic greenhouse vegetables on 12 acres of land.

Keles is installing a second greenhouse at the cost of €440,000, in order to meet the needs of the region with organic products. According to Keles, “I started the production of all peanut plants in Siirt after the year 2000. Growing my business in the following years, I went from producing 100,000 peanut plants to 3 million. 3-4 years ago, after growing the peanut plants, I installed a greenhouse facility on 12 acres of land. In 2015, in the same area and with the help of the Rural Development investment support, in the form of a 50% grant towards the €440,000, I started to work to install the second greenhouse facility on 15 acres of land. At the moment we’re excavating the field and it will become operational within four months. We will find 45 people to work in the 27 acres of greenhouse facilities.” Keles will grow organic tomatoes and cucumbers in the greenhouse and aims to produce 5 tons of produce in the season.
