During a handover ceremony at the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Kappeln Burkhard Rautenberg got the keys for the much needed refrigerator truck. Burkhard Rautenberg is the manager of a food bank in Kappeln that provides food to people in need.
The logistics company IFCO, known for their reusable fruit and vegetables trays, assisted with a donation of €5,000.

“The refrigerator truck is a great help; it means that the Kappeln food bank can quickly transport fresh food, without the loss of quality, to the right places. All the Kappeln food bank volunteers are very grateful to IFCO for the support,” said Burkhard Rautenberg.
The donation for the refrigerator truck is a part of IFCO’s WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY initiative, and until now IFCO has helped with the purchase of 40 trucks for German food charities. The charities use furthermore over 66,000 reusable, returnable containers (RPCs) from IFCO for delivery and storage of food. The free use of the RPCs by the food banks reduces waste.
The combined use of reusable containers and refrigerator truck guarantees an important element: freshness. “Hygiene and freshness are principal factors in food logistics,” states Wolfgang Orgeldinger, IFCO SYSTEMS CEO. “We are glad that we can support the food banks all over the world, with the WORLDWIDE RESPONSIBILITY program in future."
