MSC leads in reefer container capacity

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the Swiss-Italian liner operator, has expanded its capacity for refrigerated containers, positioning itself as the leading liner in terms of size. According to Alphaliner, MSC's fleet has seen a growth of nearly 20% over the past year, now totaling 815 ships with 583,700 reefer plugs, marking an increase of almost 18%. This development underscores MSC's commitment to enhancing its refrigerated cargo handling capabilities.

Comparison with other carriers reveals that Ocean Network Express (ONE) experienced the highest growth in reefer plug numbers, about 23%, and expanded its fleet by 17.5%. Conversely, HMM, the South Korean flagship carrier, saw a slight reduction in its reefer capacity by over 1%, following a fleet size reduction of more than 2%.
