Switzerland's favourite apple

Foodle.ch has asked their audience to vote for their favorite apple in February 2015. The 500 participants came up with 58 favourite apple varieties. The top three exists of Pink Lady, Gala and Braeburn. These results were a reason for Foodle.ch to learn more about the most popular and best-eaten fruit in Switzerland and they commissioned expert Agroscope to put the apple under the microscope. Amazing facts came to light and can be discovered at Foodle.ch.

Favourite type of apple

The choice of apple varieties in Switzerland is huge: sweet, rather sour, juicy and crunchy - every taste is catered for. The Foodle survey asked for the Swiss for their favourites and two of those, Gala and Braeburn apples, are varieties with the largest orchards in Switzerland. A surprise result was Pink Lady making it to the top three of favourite apples.

The apple experts will decide
The apple is the most popular and best-eaten fruit in Switzerland. Thanks to special storage techniques, apples are the only Swiss fruit available throughout the year, and still remain fresh and crunchy. This is one of the reasons for Foodle.ch to get to know more about this popular fruit and Agroscope started the investigation. The Agroscope sensory panel in Wädenswil tasted and described the
varieties Pink Lady, Gala and Braeburn. And the experts at Agroscope answered apple related questions of Foodle.ch. Such as why are apples so healthy? How can the apple contribute to the maturation of a green tomato? And what is the best way to eat an apple, to make sure that you get the best taste experience?

Read all about the results at Foodle.ch
The complete results are available at www.foodle.ch/de/apfel under the heading community. The next interesting Foodle series is about bread and will be published the coming weeks.

A reward for apple lovers
Among all those who participated in the survey, one will be rewarded with a special experience. Foodle.ch will draw a winner who can immerse themselves in the world of apples and press their own apple juice. Together with three companions (max.) the winner will visit Agroscope for an afternoon.
