UK: Co-op staff 8.5% pay rise

The shopworkers trade union Usdaw has announced that it has agreed an 8.5% pay increase with the Co-operative Employers Association for close to 60,000 Co-operative Food employees over the next two years.

Usdaw said the proposal will be put to a ballot, with the result announced on 22 April. The deal includes proposals to simplify reward practices, improve consistency and better align the Co-op to market practices among major food retailers.

Usdaw national officer John Gorle said: “This represents a good step forward for staff and we are recommending that they vote for the deal. The pay increase applies to food stores shop assistants and their supervisors and is worth at least £1,200 per year extra for a full-time employee.”
