Weis Markets expands online grocery ordering, in-store pickup

Weis Markets is expanding its grocery online ordering and in-store pickup service. Starting March 8, shoppers at the chain's Lower Allen Twp. store will be able to order and pay for groceries online and pick up the order at the store off Lowther Road.

Shoppers place their orders via Weis' website in the online shopping section. Personal shoppers inside the store then handpick the orders.

Shoppers can use their Weis Preferred Shoppers Cards as well as paper and eCoupons with the service. In addition, payment is accepted online via a secure PayPal account or via a curbside checkout at the store.

The first online order is free. After that, the price is $2.95 for orders under $150, and free for orders more than $150.

Grocery delivery and pick-up is proving to be the next big push for supermarket chains. Last month, Giant Food Stores launched PeaPod by Giant grocery delivery to homes in central Pennsylvania.
