Romania: VAT on fruit and veg to be reduced to 9%

Romania's new draft Tax Law will entail the reduction of the standard VAT rate next year, from 24% to 20%, and down to 9% for meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and other basic foodstuffs.

Subsequently, the standard VAT rate would be reduced from 20% to 18% as from 1 January 2018.

The document aims at reducing the standard rate for all goods and services from 24% to 20% and implementing the reduced rate for fruit, vegetables and other food products from 1 January 2016.

From this date onwards, there are also plans for the introduction of reverse taxation for transactions involving the sale of buildings, parts of buildings and land of any kind.
