France: 20% consumers satisfied with fresh produce dept

According to Kantar World Panel, the big distribution, with its hypermarkets, supermarkets and minimarkets, lost 1,6% of traditional fresh fruit and vegetables products in 2014. On the contrary, big retailers specialized only in fresh products gained 2%.

On the whole, specialized markets, including open air markets, make 26,6% of fresh products volumes in France. However, the most relevant increases are made by great mass retailers such as Grand Frais.

Kantar World Panel reports also that the market quota of volumes registered by Grand Frais reaches today 2,8% of traditional fresh produce, registering a 0,3% growth in a year. 10,5% of French families shop at a Grand Frais, where they buy 21,6% of their annual purchases of fresh fruit (+1,4%). The amount of yearly average visits to the French specialized store has now reached 8,4%, marking a growth of almost 1%.

“The growth of Grand Frais lies mainly on the cannabilisation of geneneral distribution”, underlined Sandrine Cayeaux of Kantar World Panel.
